I don’t think the story will end with the arrival of animal control. There was a sneak peak that refers to travelers… admittedly, it’s a Sunday strip, so maybe connected, maybe not. I think it will be … the trip home would allow for two trash loving souls to get to know each other better.
I had almost the same experience with my Maus (my avatar here) … I was specifically looking for a calico and the shelter had posted a picture of a young short hair calico. When we got there, we discovered her in a cage with another young cat … the two of them were sitting like statues of Bastet and the interior of the cage looked like the Tidy Woman’s living room. The two cattens were COVERED with food and water! I took the calico out, but she wasn’t interested in me at all … looking around, not making any eye contact, and so forth.
In the meantime, my DH had been looking around and he called me over to another cage, where this beautiful long haired calico was sitting serenely. We took her out and she started purring immediately and we fell in love. Maus, like Sophie, was never an easy cat, but boy howdy, did she love people!
I had been thinking that Sophie’s distraction might be enough to make the Tidy Woman throw her out … which as awful as that would normally be, is just what we need.
Oh yes! That works beautifully.
