Hello! I'm the cartoonist behind 'Breaking Cat News!' I enjoy illustrating, cartooning, baking, antique shops, old-timey detective shows, and anything with avocados. Wife, mother, cat lover. One day I hope to be a little old lady who rides around town on her bicycle solving mysteries.

She is 100% fiction, alas! Not many of my friends would volunteer for this role, lol!

Thank you for asking! I’m hoping to bring them in more in upcoming stories! Making the switch to newspapers was a challenge with them, because the subtitles take up so much of the panels. Recently I realized if I adjust the pacing of their strips to three panels, I may solve some of that! Hopefully!

Originally I wrote this strip to specific lyrics to “I can do it with a broken heart,” by Taylor Swift—a song I really think captures Sophie’s whole journey this year! (Also a song I love myself!) When I reached out to my editor and they reached out to the legal department to get the specifics on “how many lyrics is too many lyrics to use from a song”, they VERY UNDERSTANDABLY said that unfortunately maybe one line could be used, but the rest would need to be parody. I’ve only mostly ever dealt in parody lyrics, so this made sense!

I’ll try to share a little video on social media today of how I originally planned out these panels! And over on Patreon in a few days, I’ll share this strip in color! Because—look closely!—I originally painted this strip in full color and then changed the hues in Photoshop, dropping a scan of the inked lines over the final version! This needed to be in color (for me and for Sophie to really enjoy ourselves making this mess, lol!), and exists in real life in full vibrancy!

It came down to this tune or “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me!” lol!! The Intruder and I both LOVE that one… and this one. Classic rock is my favorite genre funny enough, but I really enjoy her—and in particular, she REALLY helps me channel Sophie!

Funny enough, the intro to “Thunderstuck” is what I listened to (over and over again!) when writing the part when Gutter showed up with Chitter and Chatter and them circling the town from above!

Sorry everyone!! I misunderstood, we taped the interview today and they will be airing it in the future! I asked them to let me know when it will be. It was a lovely interview for their show ‘Places and Spaces’ with Leslie Stoval, and I can’t wait to share it in the future! We had a great time chatting!

Hello everyone!! If you’re in Northern CA, you can hear me today at 12:30 pm Pacific time on KCSM FM 91.1 in San Mateo! They’ve invited me on for an interview about the comic! I believe they’re also available in the radio app Tune-In, for folks outside of CA, but I’m not certain. It’s worth a search, if you’re good at tracking down radio stations in this wild modern world! I hope you’ll tune in!
