Rob your sister’s workplace, and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt.

No, Sengupta. There’ll be Lovejoy references later, though, don’t worry.

Oh, incidentally, Des actually has squirted ink in Darren’s face before. Darren (and Shauna) first appeared in Scary Go Round when Des ran away from home and wandered down onto the Swarbrick Estate, where Des got accosted by the group of thugs Darren was hanging out with, and in the resulting scuffle, Darren got a face full of Fishman ink. He ended up taking Des home with him to recuperate, and that’s how we first met Shauna.

Not my universe! I’m just a visitor to the strange and fascinating mind of John Allison. I’ve been reading his comics since Bobbins crossed over with another webcomic I’d been previously reading, the now-long-defunct Waiting for Bob, back in 1999.
The stuff I’m talking about here is all things that actually happened in John Allison’s earlier comics, Bobbins and Scary Go Round. That Hugo quote comes from the SGR storyline “The Election”, in which Hugo ran for Mayor of Tackleford as “the candidate who is neither an idiot nor a jerk to people”. This ended up setting off a sequence of events that culminated in Erin endearing herself to the mystery kids by deliberately getting their names wrong all the time.
(No, seriously, there’s a clear chain of cause and effect.)

As you can see by the window lettering, the restaurant here is Hugo’s. The proprietor, Hugo Rodriguez, was a major character through much of Scary Go Round, and… frankly defies description. So I’ll let him introduce himself:
“I am like a supernova in the night. I appear in a blinding flash and change your universe forever. Also I promise a free bird table for every lonely spinster.” — Hugo Rodriguez
The waitress is Fallon Young, genetically-engineered sexy superspy, until she was forcibly retired and started waiting tables, in absence of anything else she could do that wouldn’t draw the ire of the government.
Daz and Romesh need to be careful what they say here. Hugo and Fallon are long-time friends of Amy (whom Hugo once described as “the ultimate lady”) and Ryan, and Fallon (whom Hugo once described as “the apex of sexy danger”) could kill them both with her little finger.
I think that’s the back of Desmond Fishman’s head just visible at the edge of panel 3. Des is also a long-time friend of Amy and Ryan (insofar as Des is capable of friendship), but that’s not really a concern, as he’s incredibly self-centered and even if he could be stirred to bother himself about someone else, the worst he could do is squirt ink in their faces.

Romesh’s dialogue was completely changed, too. It was originally, “Cheer up, Daz. You can’t grow roses without”, ah, garbage.

“High tensile” fencing.
The dialogue in the last panel got edited for language.

Per the June 4th strip, Si Dixon, because he is such a kind and generous man, is only demanding a £2000 installment payment from Darren right now. I suspect that, even if Daz can come up with that money, it won’t be enough to even pay the accumulated interest at Si’s extortionate rates, so Daz will be even further in the hole, and Si will just keep milking him until he does something stupid enough to get himself thrown in prison again. And then the compound interest will just keep ticking up, waiting for him to get out again…
He can afford to be. He’s deliberately set it up so that there’s no way that Darren can ever pay off the debt. Darren falling short of his demands just lets him pretend to be magnanimous while piling ever-more unrepayable debt on Darren.
It’s all found money for Si. He’s already made a 1400% profit off his original investment.
